The matches which she was supposed to sell were all with her. She was not able to sell any of them. She was feeling cold and hungry. She was afraid of going back to her home as her father would beat her for not being able to sell the matches. In such a painful situation, she sees the vision of a Christmas tree, roast, and her grandmother. These are the things which are most dear to her.
