Explanation:

x-axis and y- axis are taken as two perpendicular lines. These axes meet at a point called origin. To introduce co-ordinate system left hand side of x-axis is taken as negative while right hand as positive. Similarly y-axis is treeted. This was first introduced by great mathematician De -Carte. This is why geometry associated with these coordinates is called Cartesian Geometry.

We can not coordinates to these axis. Any point on x axis has coordinates as (a,0) where a>0, a<0 or a=0. Similarly any point on y axis has coordinates (0,b) where b>0, b<0 or b=0..
