The longer base of a trapezoid is 97. The line segment joining the midpoints of the diagonals is 3. Find the measure of shorter base.

Anonymous: pls recheck your values.......97 and 3?? are u sure??

if a and b are bigger and smaller bases of trapezium then
line sigment joing the mid point of diagonals=(a-b)/2=3
hence b= a-6=97-6=91

Anonymous: line sigment joing the mid point of diagonals=(a+b)/2.......not (a-b)/2
smrchh: Can you please explain it nicely......??
smrchh: Ok..ok... I understood....Thanks a lot.
rdahin: Welcome Srmchh
rdahin: Suraj Jha , line segment joining mid points of legs is a+b/2 line segment joining mid point of diagonals is a-b/2. Do not confuse legs for diagonals

Dear Student,

◆ Answer -

Shorter base = 91 cm

● Explaination -

Given that line segment joining the midpoints of the diagonals is 3. Line joining midpoints of non-parallel sides is thus 97-3 = 94 cm.

Also this line is 3 cm more than shorter base. Hence, the measure of shorter base is 94-3 = 91 cm.

Thanks dear. Hope this helps you...
