Question :-

The longest side of a triangle is 3 times the shortest side and the third side is 2 cm shorter than the longest side. If the perimeter of the triangle is at least 61 cm, find the minimum length of the shortest side.

Solution :-

let, a , b and c are sides of triangle.

perimeter of triangle is 61 cm.

by question

let, a be the shortest side,

Hence a = x cm

let, b be the longest side,

Hence b = 3x cm

let, c be the 3rd side which 2cm shorter than longest side,

Hence c = 3x - 2 cm

we know formula of

=> Perimeter of triangle = a + b + c

=> 61 = x + 3x + 3x - 2

=> 61 = 7x - 2

=> 61 + 2 = 7x

=> 63 = 7x

i.e.

=> 7x = 63

=> x = 63/7

=> x = 9 cm

Hence minimum length of shortest side of triangle is 9 cm.

i hope it helps you.
