The tether holding down the front of the tongue is called the frenum.
The back of the tongue is anchored into the Hyoid Bone.
The lowerside of our tongue is so uneven because of the following reasons

.Chewing and mixing the food with saliva
.Appreciation of the taste
.Transfer of food or bolus to the oesophagus by swallowing
.Role in speech
.It also enhances smiling and other expression.
