When magnesium burns in air, it reacts with oxygen to form MgO. This reaction is highly exothermic and produces very bright light, like the one seen during welding. This bright light can harm the eyes, so the ribbon should be held far from the eyes and safety goggles should be used, if available.

The magnesium ribbons should be burned by keeping as far as possible frim our eye , 'cause the smoke and gas produced by it can effect our eyes , it's sparkling may cause the serious burn and pain .
