Since the sign is negative, the image is real and inverted. Since the magnification is more than 1, it is enlarged.

Shalmali040203: So, does diminished image have magnification in decimal form like 0.2 or something like that?

The image formed by the lens will be diminished.

  • When the value of the magnification is less than 1, the image formed is always diminished.
  • Since, the value of the magnification is negative, the image must be real and inverted.
  • We can also conclude that the lens given in the question is a convex lens as a concave lens gives a diminished image but it always gives a virtual and erect one.
