Since the sign is negative, the image is real and inverted. Since the magnification is more than 1, it is enlarged. Yes , it can be diminished . Because -2 means convex lens .

The image is virtual, erect & enlarged.

Magnification by a lens is +2.

Now, we know that :

\boxed{\bf mag. =  \dfrac{ h_{i}}{ h_{o}}  =  \dfrac{v}{u}}

  • h_(i) is image height , h_(o) is object height, v is image distance and u is object distance.

Now, when magnification > 1 , then the image is erect and magnified (i.e. enlarged). This is possible only when image is also virtual.
