The main aim of the Mohl's half-leaf experiment is to prove that CO2 is necessary for photosynthesis. Take healthy potted plant with thin leaves. Before the acivity we have to keep the plant in dark for 24 hours. Put potassium hydroxide pellets or solution in the wide mouth bottle. Insert the split cork in the mouth of the bottle. Insert one of the destarched plant leaves into a transparent bottle. Leave the entire arrangement along with bottle in sunlight.

1. What did you observe?

2. Why was the plant kept in dark?
