(d) Barrackpore was located in undivided Bengal.

The Barrackpore centre:

  • The Barrackpore revolt was an ascending of local Indian sepoys against their British officials in Barrackpore in November 1824.
  • The episode happened when the British East India Company was battling the First Anglo-Burmese War (1824-1826) under the administration of the Governor-General of Bengal, William Amherst, first Earl Amherst.[3]
  • The revolt had its underlying foundations in British heartlessness towards Indian social feelings, joined with carelessness and unfortunate stock game plans, which caused developing hatred among the sepoys of a few regiments of the Bengal Native Infantry after a long walk from Mathura to Barrackpore.
  • The absence of transport for belongings and social worries about being moved via ocean caused dread and when troops from the 47th Native Infantry showed up on march, the soldiers wouldn't walk towards Chittagong, except if their complaints were cured.
