Cotton, which is a cellulose fibre, is the main fibre crop of India. The major cotton growing states in India are Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Haryana. The plants are perennial but grown as annuals.
