Mutation is the sudden heritable change in the genome of the bacteria. Antibiotics acts by increasing the membrane permeability of bacteria which leads to loss of cellular fluids and finally death of bacteria. Due to the sudden change in the genome the genes which encodes the protein for antibiotic resistance gets mutated and are unable to provide the resistance as their genome sequence gets altered and they start producing variable protein which provides resistance to the antibiotics.
