The major events of mitotic prophase include all of the following except (B) DNA replication

  • Prophase is the first phase of mitosis. In this phase breakdown of the nuclear envelope occurs accompanied by the disappearance of the nucleolus. The phase also witnesses the beginning of the condensation of chromosomes.
  • Other phases of mitosis are metaphase, anaphase and telophase.
  • DNA replication occurs during S phase before the beginning of mitosis. This is done to double the genetic material for equal distribution between daughter cells.
