The Malabar coast get its maximum rainfall in June- September because of Southwest monsoon winds which blows from Southwest to northeast and give heavy rainfall in India. Malabar coast lies in the westward side of Western Ghats hence due to obstruction by the Western Ghats the moisture laden Southwest monsoon winds are forced to shed their moisture on the Windward side of the Western Ghats.
