He never expressed
any feelings. He told Taplow that he had given him exactly what he deserved,
nothing less and nothing more. He was not affected by Taplow’s anxieties and
did nothing to reduce his fears.

One of his pupils, Taplow was given the overload of work because he was absent in Harris's class due to his sickness. As when he asked Mr. Harris that whether he had been given retreat, the reply of Harris that Taplow was given what he deserved made Taplow call him hardly human
