Yes, it's true.The convict was actually a happy man who had a home and a wife but didn't have a job.So he had to steal food for his ill wife Jeanne.But,he was caught and sentenced to ten years in prison.After undergoing the harsh treatment meted out to him in the prison,he became a hard-core criminal.He became a beast as he was concerned only with his basic needs and didn't believe in emotions and compassion.So, we can conclude that it was the harsh and painful circumstances that made him a criminal.
