Step-by-step explanation:

The marked price of a calculator (m.p)=Rs 1000

let discount precent = 2x%

vat precent = x%

s. p with vat = 836.2

Now, by using formula

sp = mp(1- diss%)

s. p = 1000( 1 - 2x/100)

or, s. p = 1000(100 -2x)/100

or, sp = 1000(100 - 2x) /100

again,

s. p with vat = sp (1+vat%)

836.2x100=1000 (100 - 2x)(1+x/100)

83620x100=1000 (100 - 2x)(100+x)

8362000/1000=10000-200x-2x^2

8362-10000= -200x-2x^2

or, -1,638 = -200x-2x^2

or, 2x^2+200x-1,638 = 0

or, x^2+100x-819 =0

will be factor get

x = 13% vat

2x=13x2 =26% = discount
