Given :- The marked price of a watch is Rs. 2700. If the discount% is twice the VAT% and the value of watch after adding VAT is Rs. 2376. Find the VAT rate. ?

Solution :-

we know that,

  • SP with VAT = {MP * (100 - Discount %)(100 + V%)} / (100)²

from given data we have,

  • MP = Rs.2700
  • VAT % = Let x %.
  • Discount % = 2x % .
  • SP with VAT = Rs.2376 .

Putting values in above told formula now, we get,

→ 2376 = [2700 * (100 - 2x) * (100 + x)] / (100)²

→ 2376 = {27(10000 + 100x - 200x - 2x²)} / 100

→ 237600 = 270000 - 2700x - 54x²

→ 54x² + 2700x - 32400 = 0

→ 54(x² + 50x - 600) = 0

→ x² + 50x - 600 = 0

→ x² + 60x - 10x - 600 = 0

→ x(x + 60) - 10(x + 60) = 0

→ (x + 60)(x - 10) = 0

→ x = 10 or (-60) .

since negative value is not Possible.

therefore, VAT rate is 10% .
