The marked price of a watch is Rs.1600. The shopkeeper gives successive discount of 10% and x% to the customer. If the customer pays Rs.1224 for the watch, what is the value of x?

1600*(90/100)*[(100-x)/100] = 1224, or

100-x = 1224*100*100/(1600*90) = 85, or

x = 100–85 = 15%.

Check: 1600*(90/100)*(85/100) = 1224. Correct.

x = 15 %

Solution:✅

Marked Price = ₹3500

Discount = 10%

 \sf{SP = \bigg(1 -  \dfrac{d}{100}\bigg)×MP}

 \rm{ =  \bigg(1-\dfrac{1 \cancel0}{1 0\cancel0} \bigg) \times 3500}

 \rm{ =  \bigg( \dfrac{10 - 1}{11} \bigg) \times 3500}

 \rm{=\dfrac{9}{1 \cancel0} \times 350 \cancel0}

 \rm{ = 9 \times 350}

\sf \: SP=\sf{₹3150}

Tax = 20% of ₹3150

Tax = \sf\dfrac{20}{100}×3150

Tax = ₹630

Hence,

Final amount = SP + Tax = ₹3150 + ₹630

Final amount = ₹3780.
