Given : the marked price of an article is Rs 60000 and

shopkeeper levied the VAT after allowing 15% discount.

the customer pays Rs 59670 including VAT

To find : the rate of VAT

Solution:

MP = 60000  Rs

15% discount.   = (15/100) 60000  = 9000  Rs

Price after Discount  = 60000 - 9000  = 51000 Rs

customer pays Rs 59670

=> VAT amount =  59670  -  51000 =  8670  Rs

rate of VAT = x %

=> (x /100)   51000  = 8670

=> x  = 867/51

=> x = 17

rate of VAT = 17 %

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

GIVEN

MARKED PRICE [M.P]= Rs 60000

RATE OF DISCOUNT [D%]= 15%

SP WITH VAT = RS 59670

RATE OF VAT [V%] = ?

WE HAVE

SP =[100-D%] × mp

          100

=   [100-15]×60000

      100

=   85 × 60000

    100

=  5100000

     100

∴sp=rs 51000

AGAIN

VAT= SP WITH VAT - SP                            [∵VAT AMOUNT IS ALSO

=  59670-51000                                               CALLED VAT]

∴VAT=RS 8670

NOW

RATE OF VAT = VAT  × 100%

                           SP

= 8670   × 100

  51000

= 867000

    51000

∴RTE OF VAT = 17%

IT IS OUR ANSWER.
