Given:

The marked price of an article was Rs.10 per piece. To increase the sales, a shopkeeper gives 20% discount on the marked price. If the shopkeeper gains Rs. 4500 by selling 9000 such articles.

To find:

What is the cost price of the article?

Solution:

Finding Marked Price:

Marked price = Rs 10 per piece

Total articles = 9000

Price of all articles = 9000 x 10 = 90000

Finding Discount:

Discount = 20%

Discount on MP

=> 90000 x 20% = 18000

Finding Selling Price:

Selling price = Marked price - discount

Selling price = 90000 - 18000

Selling price = 72000

Finding Cost price:

Gain value = Rs 4500

Cost price = Selling Price - profit

Cost price = 72000 - 4500

Cost price = 67500.

So cost price of 9000 articles is Rs 67500

Finding cost price of per piece:

=> 67500 ÷ 9000

=> 7.5

Hence, the cost price of per piece is Rs 7.5
