Given that the marks of 15 students in an examination are

25,19,17,24,23,29,31,40,19,20,22,26,17,35,21

first of all arrange the marks in ascending order

17,17,19,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,29,31,35,40

Here observe that no of student off i.e. n=15

so median is \frac{n + 1}{2} thterm i.e middle term

median =  \frac{15 + 1}{2} th \: term \\  \\  =  \frac{16}{2} th \: term \\  \\  =  {8}^{th} \: term \\  \\ median \:  = 23 \\  \\

Solution:-

Given:-

  • number of students is 50[n=15]

  • marks in examination 20, 22, 26, 31, 40, 19, 17, 19, 25, 29, 23, 17, 24, 21, 35

  • arrange in ascending order,

17,17,19,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27,29,31,35,40

Median=n+1/2=15+1/2=16/2=8

8 th term is 23

Median is 23
