Famous Indian director and writer Satyajit Ray invented the fictitious detective and private eye known as Feluda, sometimes known as Prodosh Chandra Mitra [Mitter]. Feluda dwells in Ballygunge, Calcutta, West Bengal, at 21 Rajani Sen Road[1]. Feluda initially appeared in 1965 in the Bengali children's publication Sandesh, which was edited by Ray and Subhas Mukhopadhyay. Feludar Goendagiri was his first excursion. One of the most influential Bengali characters of all time is Feluda
Feluda is frequently joined by his cousin Tapesh Ranjan Mitter, his assistant and storyteller of the stories (Feluda fondly refers to him as Topshe). Popular thriller author Jatayu joins the pair in the sixth novel, Sonar Kella (The Golden Fortress) (Lalmohon Ganguli).
It was decided to film Feluda. In this series he made ten TV films and six theatrical films in Bengali on the character. Sandip Ray also made a stand-alone Feluda film Badshahi Angti (2014) which was intended to be the first film of a reboot series, but the series was cancelled and Sandip Ray came back to the previous film series.

Answer:
B. 1. a. The case being referred to here is the case of Rajen Babu being threatened by a letter posted to him which states that he shall be punished for his past deeds.
b. The three suspects were Dr. Mitra who was Rajen Babu’s physician, Mr. Ghoshal who was an antiques collector like Rajen Babu and Prabeer Majumdar, Rajen Babu’s son.
c. Feluda suspected Dr. Mitra because he knew that his practice was not doing very well so he suspected that he could have sent that letter to frighten Rajen Babu so he could fall sick and Dr. Mitra could profit off of it. He suspected Mr. Ghoshal because he was Rajen Babu’s competitor and was also a crook because he bought antiques for cheap but sold them at a higher price. He suspected Prabeer Majumdar because he had been banished by his father sixteen years ago for stealing money so Feluda believed he could be doing this to seek revenge.
2. a. Feluda found out that the real culprit was Tinkori Babu, Rajen Babu’s tenant as well as his school friend and he made this discovery after he realised that there was a faint smell of cheroot emanating from the mask. He knew Tinkori Babu smoked cheroot and thus, he knew he was the real culprit.
b. We finally get to know the real motive when Tinkori Babu sends a letter to Rajen Babu confessing that he was the culprit behind the letter. He did so to seek revenge because, in their school days, Rajen Babu had tripped up Tinkori Babu during a 100m race, which had cost him his medal as well as his physical health.
Explanation:
- ‘The Mask’ is an excerpt from Satyajit’s Ray ‘Danger in Darjeeling’ which talks about the case of Rajen Babu being threatened by a letter posted to him which states that he shall be punished for his past deeds.
- Feluda offers to help him find the culprit and comes across the following three suspects:
a) Dr. Mitra who was Rajen Babu’s physician. His practice was not doing very well so he suspected that he could have sent that letter to frighten Rajen Babu so he could fall sick and Dr. Mitra could profit off of it.
b) Mr. Ghoshal who was an antiques collector like Rajen Babu and also a crook because he bought antiques for cheap but sold them at a higher price.
c) Prabeer Majumdar, Rajen Babu’s son who had been banished by his father sixteen years ago for stealing money so Feluda believed he could be doing this to seek revenge.
- Feluda later found out that the real culprit was Tinkori Babu, Rajen Babu’s tenant as well as his school friend and he made this discovery after he realised that there was a faint smell of cheroot emanating from the mask. He knew Tinkori Babu smoked cheroot and thus, he knew he was the real culprit.
- We finally get to know the real motive when Tinkori Babu sends a letter to Rajen Babu confessing that he was the culprit behind the letter. He did so to seek revenge because, in their school days, Rajen Babu had tripped up Tinkori Babu during a 100m race, which had cost him his medal as well as his physical health.
