SOLUTION.

Time period of Second hand on earth Is same as that on the planet.

T(e) = T(p)

We know that the time period of the second hand is 60sec as it complete one revolution in 60sec.

T(e) = 60sec.

T(p) = 60sec.

Mathematically...

time period = 2πl/g

60 = 2π1/g......for earth

Where l is the length of hand and g is the gravity on the planet.

Let the length of hand on that planet is L.

60 = 2πL/g°.......(3)

where g° is the gravity on that planet

M° is the mass of the planet

R° is the radius of the planet

M is the mass of earth

R is the radi of earth

g° = GM°/(R°)²

g° = 2GM/(2R)²

g° = GM/2R²..... (1)

if g is the gravity on earth

g = GM/R².....put in (1)

g° = g/2.....(2)

put (2) in (3)

60 = 2π2L/g

from equation of time period for earth we get

60 = 2π/g

60 = 602L

2L = 1

L = 1/2m
