The mass and weight of an object on earth are 5 kg and 49 N respectively. what will be their values on the moon? Assume that the acceleration due to gravity on the moon is 1/6th of that on the earth.

solution : Data :m = 5 kg, w = 49 n,
gm=ge/6,m (on the moon) =?,w(on the moon) =?
(1) The mass of the object on the moon = = the mass of the object on the earth = 5 kg
(2) w = mg
Wm/We = Mgm/Mge = Gm/Ge = 1/6
We = We/6 = 49N/6 = 8.167
( weight of the object on the moon ).

Answer: Data :m = 5 kg, w = 49 n,

gm=ge/6,m (on the moon) =?,w(on the moon) =?

(1) The mass of the object on the moon = = the mass of the object on the earth = 5 kg

(2) w = mg

Wm/We = Mgm/Mge = Gm/Ge = 1/6

We = We/6 = 49N/6 = 8.167

( weight of the object on the moon ).
