In the first case the tension is

T=mg

=500(9.8)

=4900N





In the second case,

it is accelerating with 2 m/s^2

T=mg-ma

=4900-(500)(2)

=3900N





In the third case,

T=mg-ma

=4900-(-2)(500)

5900N
