The mass of an empty specific gravity bottle is 35g in physical balance when it is completely filled with water the mass change to 75g now the bottle is washed and dried and again filled with methanol the weight of bottle with methanol is found to be 67 g calculate the relative density of methanol

mass of empty bottle=35g

mass of bottle+ mass of distilled water= 75g

therefore, mass of water = (75-35) g

=40g

mass of bottle+mass of methanol= 67g

therefore, mass of methanol = (67-35) g

= 32g

we know relative density=( mass of liquid/mass of water) × 1 g cm^3

= (32/40) ×1 g cm ^ 3

= 0.8 g cm^ 3
