The escape velocity on the surface of Jupiter is 1.97 × 10⁹ m/sec

Given -

  • Mass of the Jupiter = 1.91 × 10³⁶ kg
  • Diameter of Jupiter = 13.1 × 10⁷ m

We know that escape velocity is

Ve = \sqrt{2gR}

where g is acceleration due to gravity and R is radius.

We know that-

g = Gm/R²

By substituting the value we get

Ve = \sqrt{\frac{2GM}{R} }

Ve = ( 2× 6.67 × 10⁻¹¹ × 1.91 × 10³⁶ / 6.55 × 10⁷) ^ 1/2

Ve = 1.97 × 10⁹ m/sec
