The mass of the earth is 6*10^24 and that of the moon is 7.4*10^22kg.If the distance between the earth and the moon be 3.84*10^5 calculate the force exerted by the earth on the moon.

given :-

mass of the earth, M = 6 × 10^24 kg

mass of the moon, m = 7.4 × 10^22 kg

distance between them = 3.84 × 10^5km (i guess this is in km)

so first of all we have to change the distance in meters.

d = 3.84 × 10^5 × 1000

= 3.84 × 10^8m

And G = 6.7 × 10^-11

therefore force exerted by the earth on the moon is :-

 \tt F = G \frac{M \times m}{ {d}^{2} }  \\  \\      \tt   \small F =  \frac{6 .7 \times  {10}^{ - 11}  \times 6 \times  {10}^{24}  \times 7.4 \times  {10}^{22} }{ { {(3.84 \times 10}^{8} )}^{2} }  \\  \\  \sf by \: solving \: we \: get \: F = 2.01 \times  {10}^{20} N

hence, the force exerted by earth on moon is 2.01 × 10^20 N

Answer:

20.2 × 10¹⁹ N

Explanation:

Given :

Mass of earth = 6 × 10²⁴ kg

Mass of moon = 7.4 × 10²² kg

Distance between them = 3.84 × 10⁵ km = 3.84  × 10⁸ m

We have value of G = 6.7 × 10⁻¹¹ N m² kg⁻²

We have to find force :

We have :

F = G m₁ m₂ / r²

F = ( 6.7 × 10⁻¹¹ ) ( 6 × 10²⁴ ) ( 7.4 × 10²² ) / (  3.84 × 10⁸ )² N

F = 20.2 × 10¹⁹ N

Hence force exerted by the earth on the moon is 20.2 × 10¹⁹ N.
