The mass percentage of carbon is 27.28% and the mass percentage of oxygen is 72.73%. The molecular mass of the compound is 88g/mol. Stepwise explanation is given below:

- Here, compound formed is carbon dioxide .

- It us given that,

Mass percentage of C = 27.28%

So, the weight of the carbon will be equals to 27.28 grams.

- And the Mass percentage of O = 72.73%

So, the weight of the oxygen will be equals to 72.73 grams.

- As we know that the,

Atomic weight of carbon is 12

and, Atomic weight of oxygen is 16

- The formula of finding number of moles is:

Number of moles = Atomic weight of substance/ Mass substance (given weight of the substance)

- So, The number of moles of carbon = 12/27.28

= 0.431

- And, The number of moles of oxygen = 16/72.73

= 0.21

- The molar mass of compound can be calculated by adding the standard atomic masses of the constituent i.e.

- So, the molar mass of the compound CO2 is,

O2 = 0.43×2×72.73

= 62.54g/mol

- The molar mass of C will be

= 0.21×1×27.28

= 5.838g/mol

- Now, molar mass/empherical mass

= 1.5

- Molecular formula C2O4

- Molecular Weight is 88g/ mol
