The material in human bones and elephant bones is essentially the same but an elephant has much thicker legs. Explain why, in terms of breaking stress???

The material in elephants bones and ours is the same. But the design is different. Large animals will have very dense bones to carry their extra weight. Even the design of bones is adapted to what load and stresses are on the animal. When a deer femur is measured for the amount of stress it can stand then compared to the same bone of a rhino, the difference is surprizung. Deer—1.7 T ; Rhino — 109T! Big does mean better in this case! Unfortunately, elephant bones were not tested. I think we may assume that the bones of elephants are strong. They will not beak easily because the animal’s weight will require stronger bones. An elephant with a broken leg would be a rare occurance.
