The Mauryan administration had four divisions—central, provincial, district and village. Do you think this system has some resemblance to our present-day system? How is it similar/not similar?

Answer:

Today's government is also centralized but with less powers than Mauryan to keep an eye on different states running. ... Mauryan provinces had their own administration and officials who managed governance at grassroots level, present administration structure also resembles with this administration structure

The Maurya Dynasty administrative system is similar to the present-day administrative system in India.

  • Indian parliament comprises a president, an upper house, and a lower house. the upper house is also called the council of states or Rajya sabha. The lower house is also called Lok sabha or house of people. Like Maurya Dynasty India's constitution has the center and follows bicameralism.
  • Article 1 of the Indian constitution says that 'India is a union of states' therefore like the Maurya dynasty India is divided into provinces that don't have the power to withdrawal from the union. At the state level, some states follow bicameralism while others unicameralism. India also has union territories some of them are under the direct control of the state while a few governments are established.
  • 73rd amendment of the Indian constitution under article 40 of the constitution which enshrines the directive principle of state policy states the formation of village panchayat and it was the responsibility of the state government to look after it. Before the 73rd amendment panchayat exist but was officially established after the 73rd amendment. And 74th amendment gave urban local bodies distinct power and authority. In this way, the Indian administration is similar to the Maurya dynasty as at the district and local level Indian constitution formed panchayat raj and urban local bodies.
