the maximum force that can be borne by the nut placed in cracker is 200N. The length of the cracker is 20cm and the nut is placed at a distance of 15 cm from the free ends of the cracker.if a boy can apply a maximum force of 25N, find whether he can crack the nut. if not, find the length of the extension rod that should be attached to the cracker handle so that the boy can crack the nut

Answer:

Boy cannot crack

Extended rod length is 20 cm

Explanation:

Mechanical advantage formula is given as;

MA = Effort arm / Load arm

As per given information

MA =20/ (20-15)

=4

To find out the load;

4 =Load /25

Load = 100 N

SO 25N load, can result in 100N of force, since we need at least 200N

So  calculating as per 200N requirement;

MA = 200 / 25 = 8

Thus we can calculate length of Effort arm = 40 cm

Extended rod length = 40 -20 = 20 cm.
