Max wavelength of the transverse pulse. = 2L

Given:

We have a string of length L. It has been attached at the 2 ends and a transverse pulse generated at on end.

To find:

Max wavelength of the transverse pulse.

Concept:

When a pulse is generated at one end , it will reflect at the other end and superimpose to form a Standing Wave.

Calculation:

Since the 2 ends are attached , we will get nodes at 2 ends.

Minimum Distance between

2 nodes = \frac{\lambda}{2}

     L =  \frac{\lambda}{2}

     \lambda = 2L

This is the max wavelength that can be formed by the 1st member of standing waves.
