given ,mean is 40 and no.of observations is 100

so ,mean =sum of observations/no.of observations

so,40=sum of observations/100

4000= sum of observations

so given that 27 was misread as 57 so...4000-57+27=4000-30=3970

so the new mean/correct mean = 3970/100

=39.70
