The age of the teacher is 57 years.

Explanation:

The mean age of 20 students is 15 years.

∴ Total age of 20 students = (15× 20) years

                                            = 300 years.

The mean age of 20 students with the teacher is 17 years.

Hence, total number of people = (20+1)

                                                   = 21 people

∴ The total age of the students with the age of the teacher = (17×21) years

                                                                                                   = 357 years

∴ The age of the teacher = (total age of the students with the teacher - total age of the students)

= (357-300) years

= 57 years.

∴ The age of the teacher is 57 years.
