Answer:

sum of age of all 21 students = (21)(16.5) = 346.5

after one student is added,

346.5+x

new average age = (346.5+x)/(22) = 16.4

thus,

x=14.3

The age of the new student added to the original sample = 14.3 years

• Mean of data = (total sum) / (total number)

• According to the question,

Combined age of 21 students = 16.5 * 21

                                                     = 346.5

• Let age of new student be p. Then,

Combined age of 22 students = 346.5 + p = 22 * 16.4

=> 346.5 + p = 360.8

=> p = 14.3
