Given :-

Mean average weight of three students = 40 kg

ATQ,

One of those three students (Ranga) weighs 46 kg and the other two students (Rahim and Reshma) weigh the same.

Let the weight of Rahim and Reshma be x each.

We know that,

Mean = (total sum of all numbers)/(total numbers)

➡ (46 + x + x)/3 = 40

➡ 46 + 2x = 40 × 3

➡ 2x = 120 - 46

➡ 2x = 74

➡ x = 74/2

➡ x = 37

Hence, the weight of Rahim and Reshma is 37 kg each.

VERIFICATION :-

LHS :-

= (46 + 37 + 37)/3

= 120/3

➡ 40 kg = RHS. Hence verified!

Solution :

Let, the weight of Rahim and Reshma is x kg each (as it is given that they have same weight).

Given that, weight of Ranga is 46 kg

ATQ,

Average of their weights = 40 kg

or, (46 + x + x)/3 = 40

or, 46 + 2x = 3 * 40

or, 46 + 2x = 120

or, 2x = 120 - 46

or, 2x = 74

or, x = 37

Therefore, Rahim weighs 37 kg. (Ans.)
