Given:

The mean height of girls in a class is 162cm while for boys is 182cm and the ratio of the number of girls: boys is 1:2.

To Find:

Find the mean height of the class.

Solution:

To find the mean of the whole class first we need to find or assume the total number of students and the total summation of the height of the whole class.

so, using the ratio 1:2 let the

number of girls=x

number of boys=2x

Now the total summation of the height of

Girls=162x

Boys=182*2x=364x

Now using the formula for calculating the mean

                                  Mean=\frac{Totalheight}{Total no of students}

Now putting the values in the formula

Mean=\frac{162x+364x}{x+2x}\\=\frac{526x}{3x}\\=175.33cm

Hence, the mean height of the whole is 175.33cm.
