Given:

✰ The mean of 10 observations = 50

✰ The value of 94 observation was misread as 49.

To find:

✠ The correct mean of observations

Solution:

Mean ( average ) mean of 10 observations = 50

⟹ Total sum ( incorrect ) of 10 observations = 50 × 10

⟹ Total sum ( incorrect ) of 10 observations = 500

Since, 94 observation was misread as 49

Correct sum of observations = Total sum ( incorrect ) of 10 observations - incorrect observation + correct observation

➤ Correct sum of observations = 500 - 49 + 94

➤ Correct sum of observations = 500 + 45

➤ Correct sum of observations = 545

Now,

Correct mean = Correct sum of observations/ number of observations

➤ Correct mean = 545/10

➤ Correct mean = 54.5

The correct mean of observations = 54.5
