Given: 10 observations whose mean is 4.5. Two numbers deleted whose value were 3.5 and 1.5

To find: Mean of the remaining numbers

Explanation: Mean of 10 observations= 4.5

mean = sum \: of \: numbers  \div total \: given \: numbers

Therefore sum of 10 numbers= Mean*10= 4.5*10

=45

Now sum of numbers that is deleted= 3.5+1.5= 5

New sum = 45-5= 40

Numbers left= 10-2=8

Therefore,new mean= Sum/8

= 40/8= 5

The mean of new numbers is 5.
