The mean of 10 observations is 40. If 35 is misread as 53. What is the correct mean ?

The mean of 10 observations is 40

Sum = mean × number of observation = 40×10 = 400

If 35 is misread as 53, correct sum will be :
Correct sum = 400 - 53 + 35 = 382

correct mean = 382 ÷ 10 = 38.2
