The mean of 100 observatios is 50. if one of the observation which was 50 is replaced 150 then what will be the resulting mean??​

E is used as sigma and X is used as mean symbol.

X= Ex/N

Given,

X = 50

N = 100

So,

50 = Ex/100

Ex = 50 × 100 = 5000

Check the attachment for the formula of corrected mean.

Now putting the values,

X(new mean) = (5000 - 50 + 150)/100 = 5100/100 = 51

Now, the observation 50 is replaced by 150, then Eq. ( i) becomes, 100Σi=1xi=5000-50+150=5100. ∴ Resulting mean =100Σi=1xi100=5100100=51. Hence, the resulting mean is 51
