the mean of 11 numbers is 42 if the mean of first six number is 37 and the that of the last 6 number is 46 find the 6th number

Solution:-

Mean of 11 Numbers = 42.

=> ( a+b+c+d+e+f+g+h+i+j+k)/11=42

=> a+b+c+d+e+f+g+h+i+j+k = 462

Let the 11 Numbers be a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k.

Mean of First 6 Numbers = 37

=> (a + b + c + d + e + f)/6 = 37

=> a + b + c + d + e + f = 222

& Mean of last 6 Numbers = 46

(f+ g+ h+ i + j + k)/6 = 46

=> f+ g+ h+ i + j + k = 276.

Now,

Sum of First & Last 6 term = 222 + 276

= 498.

Now,

Sixth Term = 498 - 462

=> Sixth term = 36.

Hence, The sixth term is 36.
