Answer:

Mean = Sum of observation / Number of observation

Mean = 15

15 = (13+5+8+12+16+19+x) / 7

15 × 7 = 73+x

105 = 73+x

x = 32

Given:

✰ The mean of 13, 5, 8, 12, 16, x and 19 is 15

To find:

✠ The value of x observation.

Solution:

Mean:

The arithmetic mean or simply the mean of a set of numbers is obtained by the sum of numbers of the set by the number of numbers i.e, we will divide the sum of observations by the number of observations to get the required mean.

Here we we are already provided with the mean of the given observations. So, substituting the value in the formula and then doing the required calculations we will find the value of x.

Let's find out...✧

Mean = Sum of observations/Total number of observations

Putting the values,

➛ ( 13 + 5 + 8 + 12 + 16 + x + 19 )/7 = 15

➛ 13 + 5 + 8 + 12 + 16 + x + 19 = 15 × 7

➛ 26 + 28 + x + 19 = 105

➛ 73 + x = 105

➛ x = 105 - 73

➛ x = 32

∴ The value of x observation = 32

Verification:

L.H.S

➛ ( 13 + 5 + 8 + 12 + 16 + 32 + 19 )/7

➛ ( 26 + 28 + 51 )/7

➛ 105/7

➛ 15

= R.H.S

Hence Proved!!
