Solution :-

→ Mean of 22 numbers was = 36

So,

→ Total Sum of given numbers = Mean * Total numbers = 22 * 36 = 792

now, given that, 88 was misread as 44 . That means we have to remove 44 and add 88 .

then,

→ New sum of 22 numbers = 792 - 44 + 88 = 792 + 44 = 836

therefore,

→ Correct mean = New sum / Total numbers = 836/22 = 38 (Ans.)

Hence, the correct mean of the given numbers is 38 .

____________

Direct Method :-

Since 88 was misread as 44 .

→ Actual sum of all numbers was increased by = 88 - 44 = 44

then,

→ Correct mean = Old Mean + (Increased sum / Total numbers)

→ Correct mean = 36 + (44/22)

→ Correct mean = 36 + 2

→ Correct mean = 38 (Ans.)

Hence, the correct mean of the given numbers is 38 .
