The mean of 22 numbers was 36. Later on, it was detected that a number 88 was misread as 44. Find the correct mean of the given numbers.

Solution:

Calculated mean of 22 numbers = 36

calculated sum of these numbers = ( 22×36 )

= 792

Correct sum of these number [ 792 -( wrong item) +(correct item)]

= (792 -44+88)

= 792 The correct mean

= ` 792 /22 = 36
