Consider the 24 observations are x₁, x₂, x₃, ..., x24

Since we know that

sum of n observation = Mean×Number of observation

So sum of 24 observation = 35×24

x₁+x₂+x₃+ ..., +x24 = 840        ...(1)

If 3 is added in every observation then new numbers are x₁+3, x₂+3, x₃+3, ..., x24+3

So sum of new number

(x₁+3)+(x₂+3)+(x₃+3)+... (x24+3)

= (x₁+x₂+x₃+ ..., +x24)+(3+3+3+.........24 times)

= (x₁+x₂+x₃+ ..., +x24)+3×24

= (x₁+x₂+x₃+ ..., +x24)+72

= 840+72 = 912            [ using(1) ]

So mean of new number =  912/24 = 38
