5

Given :-

Mean if 5 items = 18

4 of them are as follows :-

16, 18, 24 and 27.

Let the 5th item be x.

We know that mean is the average.

Formula to find mean :-

(Sum of all numbers)/(total numbers)

So we can write,

➡ (16 + 18 + 24 + 27 + x)/5 = 18

➡ 85 + x = 18 × 5

➡ x = 90 - 85

➡ x = 5

Hence, the 5th item/term is 5.

Given :-

Mean of 5 items is 18

Four items i.e 16,18,24 and 27

To Find :-

Fifth item

Solution :-

Let the fifth item be a.

Using Formula :-

\large{\sf{\boxed{\boxed{\frac{Sum \: of \: all \: numbers}{Total \: numbers} \: = \: Average Mean}}}}

_______________[Putting values]

⇒ (16 + 18 +24 +27 + a)/5 = 18

⇒ 16 + 18 + 24 + 27 + a = 18 * 5

⇒ 34 + 51 + a = 90

⇒ 85 + a = 90

⇒ a = 90 - 85

⇒ a = 5

\huge{\sf{\boxed{\boxed{Fifth \: item \: = \: 5}}}}
