The mean of 5 numbers is 27. If one of the number is excluded, the mean becomes 25. Determine the excluded number with proper working.

(i)

Given that mean of 5 numbers = 27.

Sum of 5 numbers = 27 * 5

                               = 135.


(ii)

Given that one number is excluded, the mean becomes 25.

Then the mean of 4 numbers = 25.

Sum of 4 numbers = 25 * 4

                               = 100.


Therefore, the excluded number = 135 - 100 = 35.
